Akhilesh Yadav, born on July 1, 1973, is a senior politician and the National President of the Samajwadi Party (SP) from Uttar Pradesh. He is a former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh who served in the office from 2012 to 2017. Yadav did his bachelor's and master's in Civil Environmental Engineering from JSS Science and Technology University, Mysore, and also obtained a master's degree in Environmental Engineering from the University of Sydney, Australia. Yadav succeeded his father, three-time UP CM Mulayam Singh Yadav, as the Samajwadi Party's National President in 2017. He became a first-time member of the Lok Sabha in 2000 from the constituency of Kannauj and, over the next two decades, served on various committees such as the Committees of Ethics, Science and Technology, Urban Development, and Environment & Forests, among others. Yadav continued in the Lower House of Parliament till 2012, when he entered the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council and started serving as the state's Chief Minister, the youngest to hold the office at the time. As of 2021, Yadav is a Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha from Azamgarh.
